Grace Under Fire
Walking Boldly with God’s Courage
“God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.” This familiar truth reminds us that even when the way forward feels unclear, divine guidance is always present. Today’s message, Grace Under Fire, speaks to those moments when life feels intense, uncomfortable, or uncertain — the very moments when God’s grace becomes most alive.
The image of fire often represents both challenge and transformation. Each of us carries a divine spark within, and there are seasons in life when that spark is ignited. Rarely does this happen during comfort or ease. More often, it happens through change, discomfort, or a stretching of who we think we are.
Grace Is Not Passive — It Is Transformative
Grace is not something quiet and distant. Grace is active, alive, and powerful. When grace meets passion, it becomes a force that reshapes our lives. Many people today are experiencing spiritual awakenings — moments when the soul begins to recognize God’s presence more clearly.
These awakenings often come during times of weakness, confusion, or suffering. We may feel like we don’t have all the answers. We may feel burdened by what Scripture refers to as a “thorn in the flesh.”
The apostle Paul speaks openly about this thorn in 2 Corinthians, reminding us that suffering and limitation do not disqualify us from God’s purpose. Instead, they often prepare us for it.
The Thorn That Awakens Grace
Each of us carries a thorn — something persistent that challenges us. It may appear as illness, strained relationships, financial stress, loss, or uncertainty in the world around us. The thorn is real, and the pain is real.
Yet Paul did not focus on the pain of the thorn. He focused on the grace that allowed him to continue his calling. Grace does not remove every hardship, but it empowers us to move through them with courage.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9
This teaching turns our understanding upside down. What we often try to hide — our weakness — becomes the very place where God’s strength is revealed.
Will, Grace, and Divine Alignment
In Unity teachings, we honor the Twelve Spiritual Powers, and each month highlights one of them. This month’s power is Will — the ability to choose, commit, and move forward.
Our human will seeks comfort, certainty, and control. God’s will, however, is rooted in eternal wisdom. It stretches us beyond what we think we are capable of. When our will aligns with God’s will, grace becomes the bridge between intention and fulfillment.
A powerful affirmation reminds us of this truth:
God’s will and my will are one.
Grace allows us to walk toward our vision without needing to know every step. It invites trust — trust in God’s timing rather than our own.
Grace in Everyday Moments
Grace often arrives quietly. Sometimes it comes through prayer, sometimes through unexpected help, and often through other people.
Consider the story of Eleanor, an elderly woman living alone whose health was declining. One icy winter morning, she slipped while getting her mail and could not get up. She prayed for help. Within minutes, a neighbor appeared and assisted her. What began as a moment of fear became a doorway to connection, care, and friendship.
This is how grace works — not always dramatically, but always perfectly timed.
Weakness as the Doorway to Strength
Many of us are taught to hide our weaknesses. Yet Scripture teaches the opposite:
“When I am weak, then I am strong.” — 2 Corinthians 12:10
Our weaknesses often reveal our deepest passions. Pain can awaken purpose. What we once believed was a flaw may become a calling — expressed through our voice, our actions, or our service to others.
God does not leave us in weakness. Grace carries us through it and transforms it into strength.
Living with Grace on Fire
Grace under fire invites us to move forward even when we do not have all the answers. It reminds us that gratitude opens the heart and that peace is not something we wait for — it is something we claim.
We take one step at a time, trusting that God is guiding each one.
Affirmations for Walking Boldly
Let these affirmations anchor you as you move forward:
- I accept the fire of grace in my life.
- God is lighting my path, step by step.
- My weaknesses are becoming my strengths.
- Grace is guiding my purpose.
A Closing Reflection
May we remember that God is present in our darkness, our pain, and our becoming. May grace be a balm in our struggles, strength in our weakness, and fire in our purpose. As we align our will with God’s will, we walk boldly — not by our own power, but by grace.
And so it is.
