Faith is often described as a journey—sometimes wide and welcoming, other times narrow and challenging. The Bible uses the imagery of the eye of a needle to illustrate how difficult yet transformative walking with God can be. Just as threading a needle requires patience and focus, so does aligning our lives with God’s truth.

At the heart of the Unity movement are five spiritual principles that guide this journey. These principles transcend religious boundaries, offering wisdom for all who seek God’s presence in their lives:

1. God is good and everywhere present. God is Omnipresence, Omnipotent and active in our lives at all times. God is our source.
2. We are children of God. Since God is good, we too are inherently good, as children of God. 
3. We create our reality.  Through our thoughts, words, and actions, we shape our experience. It is our inner thoughts that align us to the truth of our outer world. This is the law of mind action.
4. We connect with God through prayer and meditation. In stillness, meditation is listening to God, and praying is talking to God. We raise our conscious awareness of God’s presence, in the God-mind, of our higher self, that which touches the higher discernment of what is truly good,
5. We walk our path & live in the Truth we know. As we practice these principles in all things, we build a solid foundation of values to live and stand by in our lives, regardless of religious background or adversities, or circumstances. These principles are meant to be practiced daily, not just understood. This is our testimony. By walking the walk and talking the talk, we are stand in the Truth we know.

Though simple, these truths are powerful tools that can reshape our perception and draw us closer to God.

The Challenge of the Eye of the Needle

Threading a needle looks simple but requires careful adjustment—sometimes we squint, tilt our head, or try again and again before success. In the same way, walking through life’s challenges with God can feel narrow and difficult.

But shifting our perspective makes all the difference. Just as we adjust our focus to guide thread through the needle, we can adjust our outlook to recognize God’s presence in every situation. With faith, what once seemed impossible becomes possible.

Faith Over Law

In Galatians, Paul reminds us that we are not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Christ. Unity teachings echo this truth, pointing us toward the Christ within—the divine spark of God that lives in each of us.

Galatians 3:5 asks:

“Does God give you His Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by believing what you have heard?”

Miracles do not flow from rigid rules but from faith—faith that expresses itself through love, kindness, and trust in God’s promises.

Another timeless truth in Galatians says: “A man reaps what he sows.” Our choices matter. Seeds of fear or anger produce unrest, while seeds of love, patience, and faith bring forth blessings.

Shifting Our Perception

Life is shaped by perspective. Rain, for instance, can be seen as a nuisance that ruins plans or as nourishment that refreshes the earth. Similarly, each situation we face can be viewed as a burden or as a hidden blessing.

What we focus on expands. When we focus on gloom, we attract more of it. But when we focus on God’s goodness, miracles appear all around us. Walking the narrow path means choosing to see through eyes of faith rather than fear. 

In difficult times, this narrow path, may seem daunting, like trying to fit through the eye of the needle, like looking for a beam of light through the eye of the needle. In dark times, focusing only on that glimmer of light is actually that ray of hope for a brighter tomorrow. Through the eye of the needle, or the faith of a mustard seed, the brightness that comes by choosing to focus on a path of goodness with God, makes all things possible. 

Practicing the Path

Like threading a needle, faith becomes easier with practice. The more we live by Unity’s principles—choosing grace over judgment, love over fear—the more natural these choices become.

Affirmations help us strengthen this practice. Today’s affirmation is:

“My faith keeps me on the spiritual path with God as my source.”

Let this be a guiding truth that steadies your steps through life’s challenges.

Final Reflection

The narrow path through the eye of the needle is not meant to discourage us—it is meant to focus us. It reminds us that life with God is not about external achievement but about faith, love, and trust in His promise.

God’s Kingdom is already within us. As we walk this path with courage and conviction, we discover that the journey through the eye of the needle leads not to limitation, but to freedom and eternal life.
